The "micro festivals" within the borders of the event make each area of STREET SCENE unique and fun. The effect is a theme-park of sights, aromas, tastes and sounds. It is this creativity and attention to detail that has earned STREET SCENE its distinction as the premiere urban music festival in the country.
As Street Scene celebrates its 20th year in the streets of San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter and East Village, Brazil celebrates its 181st year of independence from the sovereignty of Portugal.
Street Scene’s annual Brazil Carnival with its pulsating samba music and colorful processions of dancers clad in sequins and feathers gives festival goers an exciting feel of Brazil’s rich and festive culture, and an experience of Rio's legendary Carnival. For detailed information on who'll be performing in the street processions for 2003, CLICK HERE!

The fire is always on during this outrageoes Drag Show Cabaret, returning for its 6th year to Street Scene. Lovely drag queens santé across the stage, delivering exciting, hilarious, risqué, and even raunchy performances of pop hits and old school musical classics. You might see a mirage of Cher or even Madonna? The cast of spicy Babettes is led by the infamous Babette Schwartz whose colorful humor, irrepressible personality, and mammoth stage presence make this scandalous production a Street Scene must see! It’s a venue held only on Friday and Saturday, as the comedy might be a bit too much for the little ones.
Get the thrill of the real thing when you stop by the Viejas Casino area and play blackjack or craps with funny money. You might even pick up a tip or two for your next visit to the state-of-the-art Viejas Casino in Alpine.

Street Scene is proud to announce the special appearance of another San Diego original – the Karl Strauss Brewing Company, who for the eleventh year in a row was named “San Diego’s Best Microbrewery”.

Come enjoy the fantastic sounds and flavors of San Diego at the Karl Strauss Tap Room where Karl will feature 10 of his most celebrated handcrafted beers. In preparation for his 91st birthday, Karl will be making special appearances and photo sessions in the Tap Room on all three days of Street Scene. Check back for Karl’s appearance schedule, as well as other special announcements.
FOR JAZZ LOVERS-The Starbucks Jazz Lounge is a seated Jazz festival in the historic Reincarnation building. San Diego is a city brimming with great jazz talents, from legends like Daniel Jackson and Peter Sprague, to budding talent like Gilbert Castellanos. Street Scene is proud to offer a venue where Jazz enthusiasts can sit and relax with a cup of Starbucks Coffee or enjoy their favorite Karl Strauss brew. Here they can listen to, absorb, and enjoy some of America’s most gifted jazz musicians as they play in a San Diego landmark dating back to the 1920’s.
